Dancing in the milonga

I rarely watch tango performances. I love watching maestro(a)s dancing in the milongas though. Sometimes one could be surprised how different they dance in demo and in the milonga. Had seen Cecilia Garcia dancing in the milonga with Pablo Villarraza at Chicago Tango festival, I was inspired to take a private lesson with her when I had the chance. That lesson was a part of the turning point for my dancing.

Here is a great couple, whose performances have been often breathtaking, danced in the milonga (probably warming up for the performance). And it is inspiring to watch.

Milonguero(a) y Bailarin-II

I meant to write about this for a while. There were tango schools back in the days, when none of us, the ones who blog about tango, knew what tango was. Milonguero(a)s did take classes, especially those who danced well. Then I came across these two interviews today:

Ladies, please

Don’t look the other way (turn your head to your left).

Look at me, though I might not be a handsome man in your eyes. :-P

And please, please, don’t tilt your head.

Either way you feel like running away.

Musicality

” My musicality is the way I hear and dance to the music. If I were to teach you musicality, you would dance the way I hear the music. You know the music well and understand the music. You find your own musicality and dance the way YOU hear the music. “

From Wikipedia:

Musicality is a noun that means sensitivity to, knowledge of, or talent for music. The word also refers to the quality or state of being musical (aka melodiousness.) …

Musicality may also refer to fitting a dance to the music being played, with the goal of relating the dance to the music’s rhythm, melody, and mood.

Simplicity

There are two kinds of dancing simply:

a) One knows his limitation and therefore chooses to dance the simple way, which he is capable of doing well.

b).One is capable of dancing wide range of moves well, yet he chooses to dance the simple way.

And these are two different levels of simplicity, yet many confuses the two as the same.
